DRIVER TRAINING THAT I HAVE DONE IN THE PAST

Being a driver for over 24 accident free years, I have enjoyed teaching new and even experienced drivers some new techniques.

I have been an OTR trainer and some of my students have taught me some cool record keeping ideas.

I have also been an in-house PTDI Certified Instructor and love teaching students the fundamentals of the air brake system and how to do a proper and thorough check on them.  Including the knowledge of which airline has air in and which one doesn't and when do they both have air in it when the application knobs are released.

When they are released, the RED line is the only one that has air supplied to it.  When I get students that look at me funny, I just tell them to go ahead and try to remove the RED or BLUE line and tell me which one has air in it.  Then I ask them when is it that the BLUE line has air in it?  The correct answer should be, "When the foot brake is applied."

Also, when hooking up multiple trailers how to tell the which airline goes where.  Easy thing to remember, "Red ALWAYS goes down the drivers side."  The driver is in the HOT seat....RED being HOT.  "The blue line ALWAYS goes down the passenger side."  The passenger is calm, cool and collected in the blue seat.  BLUE being COOL.  That way, when a driver sees glad hands that are not painted, or air lines that are black, all they need to do is hold up the line to see where it is mounted.

That will tell you right away whether it is blue or red.

The next favorite thing I have loved to teach is backing.  It was absolutely impossible for me to turn my brain around to figure out how to back a trailer when I was first learning.  Then when I figured it out, I had total fun with it.  If I had the chance, I'd bet myself that I could back a trailer all over town and get away with it.

So, being that backing was so tough for me at first, I completely understand when students have a tough time.  I love to teach them whatever technique turns their light bulb on.  When it does and I see the comprehension in their eyes, I stick to that technique until they get it on their own.  Then to watch them put the trailer wherever they want is a fantastic day for both of us.

Just a few of the things that I have enjoyed doing.  Would love to one day be back as an Instructor given the right opportunity.

PET PEEVES - OF SORTS

So, a couple of pet peeves....not sure they can be addressed or changed, but I have them anyway...I have that right!

Here goes....Automatic toilet flushers and Hand Dryers in bathrooms.

Why?  Because if you think about the water in the toilets, it is filthy.  You sit and it flushes several times soaking your butt with filthy water.  So, when I can, I put a string of toilet paper over the sensor and it won't flush while I'm sitting.

Ever watch the water in the toilet when it flushes?  It splashes all over the seat.  Yuk!!!

Now for the Automatic Hand Dryers.  I want to be able to wash my face whenever I want.  Cool...but with the "Turbo Dryers" they only point downwards and I can't bend over like I used to when I was a kid.  Not to mention, I don't want to embarrass myself because I'm trying to be a contortionist just to dry my face.

Why can't they do away with the Auto Flushers and put paper towels back in the bathrooms?

Anyone else with me on this?
